Weybridge Road cycle route, by the A317

Start of the Weybridge Road cycle path by the A317

Link from the Weybridge Road cycle path (by the A317) to the River Wey Navigation

The River Wey Navigation has a much poorer towpath that the Basingstoke Canal.

The Cyclists Dismount sign applies only within 50 metres of the locks.

Shared-use path to Byfleet

The shared-use route is to the right, not on the grass verge, of course,

Shared-use route turning right off this closed road.

To follow the River Wey Navigation you have to either go around this barrier or up the steps ahead.

The Basingstoke Canal towpath to the right, and crossing to footpath to the left.

Shared-use footway by the A30 in Egham

Signs on shared-use path in Egham

Narrow shared-use footway by the busy A30 in Egham - not good enough.

Generally unpleasant. Who wants to cycle here, risking life and limb on filthy narrow strips of pink painted gutter bullied by other road vehicles? This road, The Causeway, is often not swept for months.

I have many photos of this road in this state, not cleaned from one month to the next. Very dangerous.

From Addlestone Moor a short cycle path leads to the footway alongside Woburn Hill. Select low gear.

From Mead Lane NCN4 crosses this meadow which is part of Chertsey Meads.

For NCN4 to Weybridge turn left here and then right after 20m.

As you cross Chertsey Bridge, for NCN4 you need to turn left here immediately into Bridge Wharf for Weybridge.

NCN4 crosses Staines bridge on this shared use footway.

NCN4 crosses the dual carriageway here and then become an on-road cycle lane heading towards Staines.

NCN4 takes a sharp left turn under the bridge and then crosses to the right hand side of the road and onto the footway.

NCN4 crosses The Avenue here before going under the M25 motorway.

NCN4 turns right here and runs along the footway against traffic.

As you come to the end of the path at the bottom of the hill beware of the concealed farm entrance to the left.

Halfway down the hill there's private driveway off to the right. Be sure to take the left hand fork here.

NCN4 starts it's descent here from the top of Coopers Hill. Hang on to your brakes, it's steep and quite bumpy.

NCN4 turns right here onto the main road, then immediately left.

NCN4 turns left here and then immediately right at the main road.

NCN4 turns right here from Crimp Hill into Ridgemead Road.

NCN4 bears left here from Bishopsgate into Crimp Hill.

The entrance to Windsor Great Park. Cycling is permitted on some roads in the park. The route of NCN4 is not marked within the park, please consult a map.

For NCN4 turn right here into Bishopsgate Road which leads to the Bishopsgate entrance to Windsor Great Park.

For NCN4 turn left here into Crimp Hill.

For NCN4 turn right immediately into Ridgemead Road.

For NCN4 turn left here. Straight on takes you down Priest Hill which is a long and fast hill. Very enjoyable.

For NCN4 turn right here onto the main road. Then immediately left.

The road bends around to the left here immediately before reaching the main road.

For NCN4 continue straight ahead here. Do not take the left fork.

The top of Coopers Hill. NCN4 takes a right turn here and passes the Air Force Memorial on the right.

The start of the track that leads uphill towards the Air Force Memorial.

Turn left here into Coopers Hill Lane. This leads to a sharp uphill section along quite a rough track.

NCN4 crosses the main road here and then turns left towards Staines on the footway alongside the dual carriageway.

Here NCN4 turns right across the road using the pedestrian crossing and then turns right again to head back in the direction you just came from, but on the other side of the road.

Here NCN4 turns left under the M25 road bridge towards Staines. Turn right here to get to Egham railway station.

The cycle route here goes under the bridge and then turns sharp right before the access barrier that leads into the car park.

After going under the bridge the route crosses the road onto the footway on the right hand side. That's between the blue fence and the rather distressed pedestrian barrier.

If you are following NCN4 from Staines to Egham then you will have crossed the dual carriageway at the pedestrian crossing and will now be on the footway. Here it switched abruptly to an on-road cycle lane.

NCN4 crosses the main road here and splits into two directions. Turn left to Egham and Windsor Great Park. Turn right to Staines and back along the north bank of the river to Laleham, Chertsey and Shepperton.

NCN4 turns left here and crosses the main road onto the other side. From there the route splits, you can go left to Egham or right to Staines.

For NCN4 turn right here, off of Free Prae Road into the park.

For NCN4 turn right here, through the small entrance into the park.

For NCN4 turn left here from Stepgates into Free Prae Road

For NCN4 proceed straight across here from Mead Lane into Stepgates.

The cycleway continues along the footway and then turns sharp right, crossing the road, into the meadows of Chertsey Meads. Do not go straight on, it leads to a dead end.

NCN splits into two here. One branch of NCN4 turn right here for Chertsey Bridge down the path. The other branch of NCN4 carries on straight ahead along Mead Lane towards Chertsey town centre.

NCN4 turns left here at the end of the meadow.
